Over the past years Botox treatments have become established for their safe, easy application and results. It is now the preferred method used to treat wrinkles, especially in the upper segment of the face.

The Botox that we use is a purified protein which acts to reduce tension between nerves and muscles.

This protein was first applied as a therapy in the late 1960s and used in the treatment of neurological disorders by specialists in the fields of Traumatology, Ophthalmology and Neurology. In 2002 the US-based FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved its use in aesthetic medicine, and the Spanish authorities followed in 2004.

Uses

  • Helps reduce and/or eliminates wrinkles.
  • Botox aids in the relaxation of facial muscles and has made marked improvements in cases of bruxism.
  • Treats hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Improves facial asymmetries
  • Helps to prevent migraines

In the circular published by the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios, it specified that the product could be used for “the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to intense vertical lines between the eyebrows and frown lines in adults under 65 years old when these lines have a significant impact for a patient.”

Precautions

Botox should not be used in the following cases:

  • During pregnancy and lactation
  • If you suffer from neuromuscular disorders
  • If you are allergic to egg whites

What does the treatment entail?

This treatment is completed within one session.

It consists of injecting small doses in previously marked locations with the use of a very fine needle in order to minimize possible adverse effects. The points of treatment selected vary from patient to patient. It relaxes the patient´s face and avoids the formation of wrinkles without the loss of expression.

The effects are noticed within three or four days of treatment and are consolidated within the first two weeks. During this period wrinkles begin to disappear as a result of the relaxation of the underlying muscles, at which point we will review progress and possibly add some final touches. There is no need for anesthetics of any kind.
